<h2>How To Get The Attention Of Your Perfect Client</h2>Are you ignoring your perfect customers without even realizing it?Sounds like a weird question, I know. But it’s really not. Because I was doing this exact thing for years. And I see it happening all around me still.Plenty of businesses have grown by leaps and bounds after they figured out how to fix this error, so let’s get into it.The Trainstation Problem.Picture a busy trainstation. People are everywhere, it’s crowded, noisy, chaotic. And let’s say you HAD to get my attention.How would you do it?You could start asking people one by one if they had seen me. But there’s thousands of them, so that’s not practical.You could yell and hope you’d spot me in the crowd. But most people would probably just think you’re off your rocker and ignore it. You might even get hauled off by the police.The best way to get my attention?Shout my name.Makes perfect sense. But what does that have to do with getting your perfect client?Bleeding NecksWhen I work with clients I ask a lot of questions. One of them is: “Who is your perfect client? Who is perfect for your product or service?”And every once in a while a client says: “Everyone! We sell to everyone!”No. You don’t. For two reasons:Not everyone needs your product or service.&nbsp;If you try to appeal to everyone you’ll end up appealing to no one.Your perfect client has a certain problem or desire. Something they want.&nbsp;In the marketing business we call this a ‘bleeding neck’ problem. Something you want to solve right away. An itch you want to scratch ASAP.Reaching Your Perfect ClientLet me show you how this works in practice.Let’s say you’re a dog trainer. You obviously sell to anyone that has a dog.But let’s say your most profitable service is helping clients train their puppy to stop chewing on furniture and stop pooping in the house.So we’re trying to reach people that are either buying a puppy any minute or have just bought a puppy and are looking into behavior training.The WORST way to reach those perfect clients is to put up an ad or a post saying something like:=== Dan’s Dog TrainingWe train all dogs, all breeds, all ages to do anything.Here’s a list of what we can do.training your dog on how to fetch training your dog on how to walk on a leash training your dog on how to socialize with other dogs training your dog on how to not break stuff when you’re out of the houseIf you have a dog and you want to have it trained by us for anything, please call us at XXXX ===On the surface it looks like a decent ad.&nbsp;But it’s not.Because it’s so bland, so vanilla, so nondescript… that no one is going to think:“This is for ME!”If you want to reach your perfect client you need to make sure they have this exact response when they read your article or ad.“This is for me. This scratches my itch. This person gets what I’m dealing with.”&nbsp;Don’t be afraid to stand out. <h2>We Are Not The Same </h2>If you're reading this it means you run a business. This is weird behavior. Most people are content working for a boss.Had a flashback to a time, almost 20 years ago, when some guy asked me: 'I don't get it. You're not making that much money, so why would you run your own business? Why not just go work for a boss?'This was long ago. I was NOT doing well. To be completely honest with you, I was broke as a joke and that very same question had come to mind for me as well.Why do I do this? Why not just go work for a boss?To this day I can't really give you a solid answer. We Are Not The Same

<h2>Smart Small &gt; Big Dumb </h2>Most marketing advice really really sucks.I studied marketing for years in school. Then I started my own business. Tried to implement what I learned in school.It was an unmitigated disaster. Didn't get clients. Hardly got anyone to even look at the ads.The ad salesman told me: "yeah, you should run it very often. Veeeeeerrrrrrryyyyy often"Made sense. The guy got paid every time the ad ran. I'd say the same thing.Took me a while to figure out that in university they taught me the strategy that companies like Coca Cola use right now. Just blast your ad and hope for the best.Only issue is that Coca Cola has a 600 million dollar ad budget. And mine was like 600 dollars.If you water a strategy down by a factor of one million it doesn't tend to do as well.Also, Coca Cola has 10,000 people in their marketing department. I had one. Which was me. And I also had to do everything else!So I started to look into the question of: 'how do big companies get so big?'. You don't go from zero to 600 million budget without doing something right... right?After a whole lot of research I figured out that they all roughly use the same formula.They don't start out running mass media 'brand awareness' ads. They start out hammering home a USP and using mostly direct response ads.Coca Cola started out using coupons, forcing distribution and selling a whole lot of sugar water as a result.Turns out that big dumb companies start out as small smart companies. Then they hit critical mass, the board of directors takes over, HR comes on, middle management entrenches itself, there's unlimited budget and the stupidness begins. Now - if you're reading this and you have a $600 million budget - that's awesome. Congratulations, I salute you. Just run any ad, it'll be fine.
