Why should you stop offending your audience?

Why should you stop offending your audience?

Let’s be honest, you did at least once.

In your headline, text, or video, maybe even without noticing it, but you probably did offend them.

Well, we know that’s not really good, or do we?

Offending other people, your audience in this cause is attractive because it sounds like a perfect headline(and there are some weird people but I don’t judge).

If you read anyyyyything about marketing and advertising, you read at least once that you should focus on people’s problems.

That’s an absolute fact in marketing and nothing, NOTHING, else works.

Why do then many people offend their audience?

Because it hits the exact problem, with a bit of shady rudeness.

Let’s say we have a dentist, and he fixes teeth(hopefully).

On a first note, a perfect headline would sound:

“Are your teeth rotten?”

“Does your smile scare you when you look at yourself in the mirror?”

This hits the exact point, but there’s no person, not even Gen Z anxiety pills humans, that would agree.

If you are a carpet cleaning business owner, then “Does your carpet smell like sweaty feet?” sounds perfect.

Why? Because it smells probably even worse.

But again, no one will admit it.

And this is the problem.

It sounds great because it’s the truth, but people are just like that.

You wouldn’t like it if someone offended you, would you? (let’s just not judge people who like it)

How do you do it then?

Well, you have 2 really simple options.

1. Go around it and make it discrete.

In the case of the dentist, you could say “Are you planning to whiten your teeth?” or “Do you want a new replacement tooth without any pain?”(or whatever dentists call that).

If we’re talking about carpet cleaners, then you could use “Are you tired of washing your carpet all alone?”

You’re still saying to them I know your teeth are horrendous and your carpet smells like sweaty midget bakers but you’re just implying it without ‘embarrassing’ them or offending them.

2. Reverse it into desire.

Just flip it.

“Does your carpet smell horrible?” → “Do you want your carpet cleaned in less than X minutes?”

Just go with the positive outcomes.

This is a really simple thing to do, and you will get so many results just by investing <5 minutes into this.
